Description

With great pleasure and excitement the Federation of Young European Greens is announcing an open call for participants of the international Summer Camp Fighting for Our Common Planet that will take place from 22 – 30.07.2018 in Selce, Croatia,  in cooperation with Zeleni Prozor.
Fighting for Our Common Planet is the second activity of FYEG’s Annual Work Plan No Commons No Future!supported by the European Youth Foundation of Council of Europe and the Green European Foundation.
Commons refer to shared resources and social practices that are maintained by communities in a sustainable manner. Commons offer a clear ethical perspective and helps us understand what happens when people collectively manage and take stewardship over resources. Good management of commons offers a sustainable and accessible alternative to the current centralized and dominant role of the state and market.
The Summer Camp will be focused on environmental commons. Water, Land, Climate, Forests, Seeds or Oceans should be managed in a sustainable, inclusive and participatory way. Mismanagement of commons have very concrete consequences on the lives of young people. It is crucial that young people are involved in designing the ways our natural commons are managed. Sustainable commons are a prerequisite for participation overall and the ways they are managed can serve as examples for many different types of participatory processes.
In order to increase capacities of young people to advocate for commons, we will:
  • Learn what commons are, and in particular what environmental commons are;
  • Reflect on the conclusions and results of the ,,Social Commons: Back to the Future!’’ seminar;
  • Understand the relation between environmental commons and youth participation by learning from concrete examples of young people’s struggles to influence decision making related to natural goods and land use, as well as young people organising to protect everyone’s access
