EARTO Policy Trainee in Brussels: Applications Open Until 31 August 2026

The European Association of Research and Technology Organisations (EARTO) is looking for a highly motivated Policy Trainee for a paid internship starting in October 2026 or shortly thereafter. The position is based in Brussels, Belgium, and applications are open until 31 August 2026.

EARTO represents around 350 Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs) across Europe and beyond. Its mission is to promote and defend the interests of RTOs in Europe, strengthen their profile and position with policymakers, and help ensure that European research, development and innovation programmes reflect their specific role within the innovation ecosystem.

What will the Policy Trainee do?

The successful candidate will join EARTO’s Policy Team, which works on research, analysis and monitoring of European policy developments.

The main responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring EU news and key EARTO policy dossiers, particularly in Research and Innovation, including Horizon Europe and the European Research Area;
  • Preparing informative emails and briefings on relevant EU developments;
  • Supporting the organisation of EARTO Working Groups and Task Forces;
  • Preparing PowerPoint presentations and meeting minutes;
  • Coordinating with EARTO members;
  • Organising meetings and related activities;
  • Drafting policy notes, website news and other materials for internal and external use;
  • Updating the EARTO website using WordPress;
  • Supporting EARTO’s social media activities;
  • Regularly updating EARTO databases;
  • Supporting the preparation of major EARTO events, including the EARTO October Events and Annual Conference.

Who can apply?

EARTO is looking for a candidate with a university degree, preferably at Master’s level, or someone currently completing their studies.

Applicants should have a strong interest in EU public affairs and policymaking, particularly in the fields of research and innovation. Previous experience in this area would be considered an advantage.

The organisation is particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate:

  • Strong motivation and a team-oriented approach;
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Good analytical skills;
  • Experience writing reports, briefing notes or website content;
  • Knowledge of EU institutions and the European policymaking process;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
  • Knowledge of WordPress is an advantage;
  • Fluent English;
  • French or other European languages are considered an advantage.

Paid internship in Brussels

EARTO offers a paid internship under a CIP contract (Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle).
